Though it may seem counter intuitive for some Milk and Dairy products are actually extremely essential for fast weight loss diets.
All common milk products and many foods made from milk are considered part of this healthy dairy group. The biggest distinction would be that foods made from milk AND retain their calcium content are still considered part of the healthy dairy family. On the flip side foods made from milk but have little to none of the calcium content is not part of the health diary group, these include cream cheese and butter. In order to qualify as a candidate in fast weight loss diets most of your choices from the milk family should either be fat free or at least low fat. Be sure to read labels when you make you purchasing choices, but some of the common milk products you should look for include:
Milk (Skim or 1%), Yogurt (beware of high sugar content fruit pieces), Cheese, Others (including frozen yogurt, ice cream etc.
For those who are unfortunately lactose intolerant, do not be discouraged because there are many milk product choices these days that are lactose free or lower in lactose readily found in the supermarkets that can be applied to your fast weight loss diets.
Surprisingly enough both male and females should be getting 3 cups of milk products a day. As a general rule of thumb 2 ounces of cheese is already consider a cup so don’t go overboard with cheese!
Milk products provide many health benefits on top of being a vital part of fast weight loss diets.
People who have a diet rich in milk products can often minimize the risk of low bone mass. Foods from the milk group also provide nutrients that are vital for health and maintenance of your body. These nutrients include calcium, potassium, vitamins, and of course protein.
Diets rich in milk products help build and maintain bone mass, more often than not this may reduce the risk of osteoporosis (disease of the bone that increases risk of bone fractures.
The intake of milk products is especially important to bone mass during childhood, where bone mass is quickly built. Overall speaking, diets rich in milk products usually have a higher overall nutritional value.
As mentioned before milk contains vital nutrients and minerals such as calcium, vitamins, protein and potassium.
Calcium is essential for building bones and teeth and crucial in maintaining optimal bone health. Typically speaking milk products are the primary source of calcium in today’s diet, so that makes it even more important for your overall health.
Vitamin D regulates the levels of calcium and phosphorous in the body and helps to build and maintain bones. Milk that has added vitamin D is a good source of this nutrient. Often you can find yogurts and cereal which have added vitamin D.
Protein of course aids in muscle growth and helpful especially in fast weigh loss diets.
Milk products, especially yogurt and milk, provide potassium and may help to maintain healthy blood pressure.
It is important to choose milk products that are fat free or low fat, because high saturated fats and high cholesterol can have negative implications to your health.
Diets high in saturated fats raise cholesterol levels in the blood. Many cheeses, whole milk, and products such as cream are high in saturated fat. To help keep blood cholesterol levels healthy, limit these choices.
A high intake of fats makes it difficult to consumer lower levels of calories.
Remember to always ask your doctor before you begin any fast weight loss diets. Remember that making the correct choices when it comes to milk products is extremely crucial in losing weight and maintaining overall health!
